‘A Bronx Tale’ Brings 1960s The Bronx To Nashville’s TPAC

A Bronx Tale is at Nashville’s TPAC now through Feb. 17.

This coming of age tale mesmerizes the theater from start to finish thanks to high-energy choreography by Sergio Trujillo and catchy, original doo-wops from Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast). It’s known as a crowd pleaser for a reason, entertaining the audience from the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s. This is the story of loyalty and family that you need to see. This is one you should leave the kids at home for though, it includes strong language and gunshot sound effects.

A Bronx Tale is directed by Academy Award-winner Robert De Niro and Tony winner Jerry Zaks. It’s based on Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri’s story

The musical is set on Belmont Street and revolves around the life of Calogero (Joey Barreiro). It’s the story of a young man that’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. At 9 years old he witnesses a deadly shooting in front of his home and finds himself trying to decide between right and wrong. He’s caught between his father, whom he loves, and the mob boss that he’d love to become.

There’s no wasted talent as this extraordinary mix of singing and choreography tell the tale of how one boy survived a tumultuous era. It’s highlighted by a standout performance by Joe Barbara who plays Sonny, a mob boss who befriends “C” after Calogero refuses to rat him out for the shooting he witnessed.

A Bronx Tale is now playing at TPAC through Feb. 17. Tickets are available here.
