As summer winds down and everyone settles into back-to-school chaos, it’s easy to forget about the little things, like making a blood donation appointment. But this month, the American Red Cross is making it easier (and more rewarding) than ever to help save lives.
During National Wellness Month, the Red Cross is urging folks in and around Nashville to roll up a sleeve and donate blood, platelets, or plasma. Right now, there’s an urgent need for all blood types (especially type O positive and B negative). Every donation can make a huge difference.
Give Blood, Get a Perk
August donations come with a couple of big benefits. First, all successful donors will receive a free A1C screening, a simple test that checks for prediabetes and diabetes. No need to fast beforehand, and you’ll get your results (confidentially) within two weeks via the Blood Donor App or online.
Plus, if you donate between August 1 and 28, you’ll also score a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of your choice. It’s a win-win.
Why It Matters
Between vacation plans, fall sports, and packed calendars, blood donations typically drop this time of year—but the need doesn’t. Hospitals still rely on a steady blood supply for everything from accident victims to cancer patients.
Even one donation can help save up to three lives. And in just about an hour, you can be in and out, with snacks in hand.
