Bebe Rexha Stands Up to Sexist Music Executive with Powerful IG Post

Pop songstress Bebe Rexha shared a powerful message on her Instagram after a sexist music executive told her she was “too old to be sexy.” By the way, Rexha is only 29 years old.

On Monday night (Aug. 12), the “Last Hurrah” singer shared a black and white image of herself looking fabulous in a matching bra and panty set. Along with the photo, she wrote a lengthy caption about what the male executive said to her.

“I recently had a MALE music executive tell me that I was getting too old and that my brand was ‘confusing.’ Because… I’m a songwriter and I post sexy pics on my Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are suppose[d] to do, especially for my age. I’m 29,” she wrote.

Rexha continued, “I’m fed up with being put in a box. I make my own rules. I’m tired of women getting labeled as ‘hags’ when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age… I’m gonna celebrate my age because you know what, I’m wiser, I’m stronger and TRUST ME I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago.”

It wouldn’t be social media without tons of comments and likes and they came flooding in as support for Rexha. Taylor Swift commented, “DRAG THEM. 29 YEAR OLDS UNITE. 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗.” Rita Ora wrote, “My sexy songwriting 👑 You are beautiful, getting sexier with age and your talent SINGS for itself. Keep making those rules 💞.” Jamie Lynn Spears, The Chainsmokers and Natasha Bedingfield also supported Rexha.

Rexha will turn 30 on Aug. 30 and we have a feeling she’ll continue to be a powerful voice for sexism and ageism in music and entertainment. We’re here for that.
