Aug. 6: What to Watch This Weekend

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

    Belcourt

    Annette

The world premiere event of the new Amazon Prime Original film, Annette, is happening this weekend at the Belcourt. The film stars Adam Driver, who plays a stand-up comedian who faces the challenges of fiction vs. reality.

    The Green Knight

The Green Knight has finally arrived, folks. I have been waiting for this movie for what seems like an eternity. Dev Patel stars in this fantasy adventure based on an Arthurian Legend, which tells the story of King Arthur’s nephew Sir Gawain.

    In Theaters

The Suicide Squad (also available on HBO Max)

IMDB: “Supervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.”

    Nine Days

Nine Days was a standout film from last year’s AFI Fest. It was truly one of the best films I saw at the festival. It’s a beautiful cinematic experience that challenges viewers to reexamine their lives.

Jungle Cruise (also available on Disney Premiere Access)

The Rock and Emily Blunt join forces to take on a live-action version of the Disney Land ride, Jungle Cruise. Between their dynamic chemistry and The Rock’s cheesy dad jokes, Jungle Cruise is a perfect family-friendly summer flick.

    Redbox

    Midnight in the Switchgrass

Loosely based on the true story of the truckstop killer, Midnight in the Switchgrass follows an FBI Agent (Megan Fox) and a Flordia State officer (Emile Hirsch) hunting down a string of unsolved murder cases that may be tied to one guy. The psychological thriller makes you wonder what you would do in this scenario. Watch my interview with film star Caitlin Carmichael here.

A Quiet Place Part II (also available on Paramount+)

This highly-anticipated sequel is now out at Redbox! If you’re a fan of the first one, A Quiet Place Part II won’t disappoint. You can also watch it with a Paramount+ subscription.

    Netflix

    Outer Banks Season Two

IMDB: “A group of teenagers from the wrong side of the tracks stumble upon a treasure map that unearths a long-buried secret.”

    Apple TV+

    Mr. Corman

Apple TV: “With better luck, choices, or posture, Josh Corman could’ve been a rock star. Now he teaches fifth grade and struggles to find happiness and meaning in a world that sometimes feels short on both.”
