Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.
Belcourt
Summertime
Belcourt: “Over the course of a hot Los Angeles summer day, the lives of 25 young Angelinos intersect. A skating guitarist, a tagger, two wannabe rappers, an exasperated fast-food worker, a limo driver, someone who just wants to find a place that still serves good cheeseburgers — they all weave in and out of each other’s stories. Through poetry, they express life, love, heartache, family, home, fear.”
In Theaters
Free Guy
After months and months of being pushed back, Ryan Reynold’s Free Guy is hitting theaters. The story follows Guy (Reynolds), a background character in a video game that will soon go offline.
RESPECT
In the latest biopic, Jennifer Hudson is back on the big screen as she stars as the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. The film follows the story of the iconic R&B singer and has been a long time in the making. You won’t want to miss this one!
Don’t Breathe 2
IMDB: “The sequel is set in the years following the initial deadly home invasion, where Norman Nordstrom (Stephen Lang) lives in quiet solace until his past sins catch up to him.”
Netflix
The Kissing Booth 3
Netflix: “Determined to make the most of her final summer before college, Elle plans the ultimate bucket list as she navigates what comes next with Noah and Lee.”
Redbox
Finding You
Franklin, Tennessee’s very own Rose Reid stars in this rom-com adapted from a book. She stars as Finley, who is fresh off a failed audition at the New York music conservatory who decides to travel abroad to find herself.
Apple TV+
Coda
One of my favorite movies of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival is coming to Apple TV+ this weekend. CODA follows Ruby, attempting to chase her dreams in music while tending to her deaf family. Check out my review here.
