April 2: What to Watch This Weekend

April 2 What Watch Weekend
Warner Bros.

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

In Theaters/HBO Max

Godzilla vs. Kong

The Monsterverse continues as we see the two titans, Godzilla and Kong, go head to head in a battle to find out who reigns supreme. The movie rights the wrongs of previous films with fewer human scenes; letting the giants be the focus with three rounds of action-packed fighting that keeps viewers guessing. Watch my full review here.

Redbox

Our Friend

Our Friend is based on the true story of a man named Dane (Jason Segel) who turned his life upside down to help a friend. The star-studded cast gives moving performances that will both make you laugh and make you reach for tissues. I talked to star Isabella Kai about her role in the film here.

Wonder Woman 1984

This highly-anticipated sequel comes to the Redbox this week. In the movie, we follow Diana Prince/Wonder Woman as she fends off new villains while trying to save a loved one from her past. The sequel doesn’t live up to the original but Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal make it worth the watch.

Netflix

Concrete Cowboy

Netflix: “Sent to live with his estranged father for the summer, a rebellious teen finds kinship in a tight-knit Philadelphia community of Black cowboys.”

HBO Max

Beverly Hills Cop III

If you checked out my recent favorite Eddie Murphy piece, you saw me highlight Beverly Hills Cop III. The movie takes place inside the Wonder World theme park, which is actually a front for a counterfeit ring. Alex Foley takes the case for crime-fighting mixed with lots of laughs.

Hulu

Fresh off their two Oscar nominations, Collective comes to Hulu. It is a devastating look at corruption inside the world of healthcare. Director Alexander Nanau does a remarkable job of laying out the story by providing us with live footage of the wild night at the Bucharest rock club and showcasing how that night led to political corruption.
