April 16: What to Watch This Weekend

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

    The Belcourt (Virtual)

    In Silico

IMDB: “A young filmmaker sets out to document a brilliant neuroscientist who has become frustrated with his field’s status quo. With time elapsing and millions of dollars on the line, In Silico explores an audacious 10-year quest to simulate the entire human brain on supercomputers.” Support the Belcourt by checking the film out at the virtual theater, get all the details here.

    Redbox

    Willy’s Wonderland

Hear me out! Nicolas Cage, animated demonic creatures and over-the-top action is a recipe for a wild, crazy, beautiful journey that you can’t take your eyes off of. No, seriously. Cage has become the staple of these wild direct-to-DVD flicks and each of them comes with strange journeys but Willy’s Wonderland is the best one yet.

    VOD

    Nobody

We witness the revenge of the dog in John Wick and now we witness the revenge of the cat in Nobody. Bob Odenkirk, who is known for his more subtle approach in Better Call Saul, enters the action world of cinema with this movie. The film doesn’t always click on all cylinders but it does check the box of being a blast.

    Netflix

    The Circle (Season 2)

If you missed season one of The Circle, it’s basically a mix of Big Brother and Catfish. The reality show includes a cast of individuals that enter “The Circle” and live in an apartment complex together. Of course, there’s a twist though! They’re not able to see each other and only present online personas of themselves — sometimes they catfish the other plays and sometimes they’re authentically themselves. Netflix is only releasing the first four episodes now and new episodes weekly after.

    HBO

    Mare of Easttown

IMDB: “A detective in a small Pennsylvania town investigates a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart.” The season premiere is on April 18.
