10 of the Best Moments from the 2017 American Music Awards

The 2017 American Music Awards were a huge hit on Sunday night. They recognized new artists, international pop stars and legends like Diana Ross.

On Sunday night, Blackish star Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the 2017 AMAs. Diana Ross’ daughter channeled her mother’s iconic fashion throughout the evening and eventually stood next to her mom as she received the Lifetime Achievement Award. That was one of the night’s highlights along with another tribute, an international pop performance and a tearful popstar win.

We narrowed down the three hours of music into 10 standout moments. Here are some of our favorite moments from the 2017 American Music Awards.

    Lady Gaga’s Tearful Win

Lady Gaga couldn’t make the award show because she was busy performing for the Joanne World Tour. She did perform via satellite on the show but it was her tearful, humble win that really impressed us. She took home the prize for Favorite Pop/Rock Female and was, once again, shown via satellite. Mother Monster hugged her dancers before saying, “I have the best fans in the whole world.”

    “Wolves”

Selena Gomez performed on TV for the first time in 2017 during the AMAs. She was joined by Marshmello for their new single, “Wolves.” Gomez appeared onstage after a dense fog lifted. She was in front of a car that appeared like it had been in an accident. Blood was on the singer’s forehead and knees. It was a very unique, and eerie, performance.

    Kelly Clarkson’s Performance

During her solo performance, Kelly Clarkson threw it back to the song that started it all. She soulfully sang “Miss Independent” before performing her new single, “Love So Soft.” with some sexy backup dancers.

    Linkin Park’s Win

Not all of Linkin Park could attend the 2017 AMAs and accept their big award. Instead, the band took the stage in Chester Bennington’s honor and dedicated the win to him. “Whether you’re a fan or an artist, I want you guys to take a moment to appreciate what you’ve got and make Chester proud,” the band’s Mike Shinoda said.

    BTS’ Big Moment

Sunday night was a big night for BTS and k-pop in general. The pop supergroup took the stage to perform during the AMAs — and they lived up to the hype. The crowd hype combined with BTS’ talent and dance skills made it an unforgettable performance.

    Khalid and Imagine Dragons’ Collaboration

The cross-genre performance of the night went to Khalid and Imagine Dragons. They came together for a mashup of “Young Dumb and Broke” and “Thunder.” The songs seamlessly mashed together. Can we get a collaboration single now?

    Moment of Respect

The 2017 AMAs opened in a beautiful way. Jamie Foxx and his daughter, Corinne, opened the show by paying respect to first responders that put their lives on the line this year. Then, Clarkson and Pink sang a duet of R.E.M.‘s song, “Everybody Hurts.” It was a powerful moment.

    The Bodyguard Tribute

The AMAs honored Whitney Houston and The Bodyguard this year. Christina Aguilera took the stage to sing some of the movie’s biggest songs including, “I’m Every Woman.” The powerhouse vocalist honored Houston by putting her own spin on the songs — and not trying to mimic Houston. Although some people might disagree, we were pretty pleased with Aguilera’s tribute.

    Pink’s Acrobatics

There are few words to describe Pink’s acrobatic, daredevil AMAs performance. She hung from the side of a hotel while she performed and flew through the air. This performance will be hard to top for anyone.

    Diana Ross’ Lifetime Achievement Award

Ross was the woman of the night at the 2017 American Music Awards. After an impressive introduction video, the woman of the hour took the stage for a performance. She performed a medley of songs including “I’m Coming Out,” “Take Me Higher” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Then her entire family joined her onstage for a beautiful moment to celebrate her career.
